It’s International Women’s Day!
My name is Lola. I feel privileged to be able to share my experiences of the things I love with you through my blog and quarterly features on Kinimori.
I am passionate about plants and horticulture, and exploring their links with human existence and creativity.
I hope this blog inspires you. Feel free to leave a comment or follow me on social media. Enjoy!
All in Plant Life
A fallen tree decaying, playing its part in the cycle of life. It is good to see things for what they really are.
A purpose reaffirmed after malicious criminal attacks on my garden.
Autumn is here. Roses continue to bloom. Some plants are making a last hoorah before winter. Some are already dying back and shedding leaves. Some, like autumn-flowering crocuses, have made their first appearance for the year! It’s also harvest time for maincrop potatoes and some brassicas.
Gladioli are a much-welcomed sight of summer for me, symbols of August, the month of my birth.
It’s mulberry harvesting time! Black mulberries, Morus nigra, are ripe and ready. Chelsea King James I and Charlotte Rouse varieties. Delicious berries.
Orange and yellow perennial lilies. Meet their basic requirements and they will put on a great show every year. Lesson learned: Less shaded lilies bloomed first. One lily bloomed later, having been uncovered just in time. Another lily in full shade showed weak growth, and did not bloom at all. I think that like lilies, we human beings can overcome obstacles and innovate. We also need to have the basic requirements for life met.
