Hello.

My name is Lola. I feel privileged to be able to share my experiences of the things I love with you through my blog and quarterly features on Kinimori.

I am passionate about plants and horticulture, and exploring their links with human existence and creativity.

I hope this blog inspires you. Feel free to leave a comment or follow me on social media. Enjoy!

I love this vibrant scene

This scene may be a nightmare for the well-ordered mind or gardening purist, but it is just the way I like it - a bit wild! A mish-mash to some but pure beauty to me.

The foliage of an apple tree is the backdrop. Look carefully, and you’ll actually see two young apple fruits just below the top right corner of the picture! Then follows Rosa 'Ballerina' and Rosa ‘Betty Prior’, both single, open and pink, but with ‘Ballerina’ having a white centre. Also in the picture is comfrey (Symphytum), with nodding umbels of pale mauve flowers.

The roses are very healthy but I do see what looks like some mildew or possibly pollen from the comfrey flowers on some of it’s upper leaves. The lower comfrey leaves seem fine so perhaps the latter is the case (I hope!). Hmmmm … I’ll take note of the possible warning sign. BUT! I ust checked comfrey growing in other open, well—ventilated spots - they’ve got even worse mildew! In any case, I didn’t plant the comfrey, which is very vigorous. I love ‘wild’ but I will have to control it by cutting it right down (it’ll spring back in no time!). I’ll use the leaves to make a fertiliser ‘tea’ for other plants.

Out of shot are two healthy camellias and at ground level, a clump of Haquetia epipactis, which loves shade. I know it all seems very busy, and here I go mixing edibles and ornamentals again, but I love it!
