Blue skies before Ciara
We have had a beautiful day today. Lovely sun, blue skies. Crisp, but not too cold. A little breezy. Nice! Yesterday was amazing too.
Not a portent of things to come over the next 24 hours though. Weather warnings have been issued for gale force winds and heavy rain, starting in the wee hours overnight. Storm Ciara is on its way. I’m hoping that Ciara will not be as ferocious as forecast. If it is, my plants that are in flower now such as Hellebores, Coronilla and Camellias are going to take a battering. My Mimosa is just about to burst into flower too. I hope the blooms won’t be damaged!
Will my plant supports and frost protection hold up? I hope no more trees come down. I lost a beloved Albizia ‘Summer Chocolate’ this winter due to high winds and my poor anchoring of it’s frost protection jacket. I found a Cytisus standard snapped at the base.
I’d better stop worrying. It (the storm damage) hasn’t happened yet, might not happen, and even if it does, I know that nature can be remarkably resilient. If some plants’ blooms are ruined for this year, there’s always next year, and lots other plants to come into flower in between.
That’s it. I’m OK now. I will draw hope and inspiration from the sunny blue skies that we have been graced with in recent days. And what inspiration!
